Salvador

Salvador, Brazil's former colonial capital, has a unique energy that invites visitors to explore its historic charm. Strolling through the vibrant Pelourinho district, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will find colourful colonial houses and majestic Brazilian Baroque churches. As a cultural center of Afro-Brazilian heritage, Salvador's traditions are ever-present. From the rhythmic beats of Olodum echoing through the streets to the Bahian women in their iconic white dresses serving the local and famous Acarajé, the soul of the city is visible.

Pelourinho

A living museum of Afro-Brazilian culture and colonial history, Pelourinho is the heart and soul of Salvador’s Historic Center. Its brightly colored facades, cobblestone streets, and 17th-century architecture have earned it a UNESCO World Heritage designation. Beyond its beauty, the neighborhood pulses with music, dance, and tradition - from capoeira circles and drumming groups to artisan workshops and sacred rituals of Candomblé. It’s a place to wander, discover, and connect with the cultural essence of Bahia.

São Francisco Church

Tucked inside Pelourinho, the São Francisco Church is one of Brazil’s most stunning examples of Baroque architecture. Built in the early 18th century, the church’s interiors are a spectacle of opulence: over 800 kilograms of gold leaf adorn the intricate woodwork, and the ceiling frescoes blend religious symbolism with tropical imagery. Stepping inside is like walking into a gilded jewel box - a powerful reminder of the grandeur and complexity of Brazil’s colonial past.

Lacerda Elevator & Mercado Modelo

Linking the upper and lower parts of the city, the Lacerda Elevator is one of Salvador’s most iconic landmarks. Though not a panoramic elevator, its Art Deco design and historic function make it a unique urban experience. At the base lies the bustling Mercado Modelo, a traditional market filled with local crafts, handmade goods, and regional delicacies. Together, they offer a snapshot of Salvador’s daily life, connecting the city’s past and present through commerce, culture, and movement.

Bonfim Church

More than a religious monument, the Church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim is a symbol of faith, syncretism, and Bahian identity. Perched atop a hill with sweeping views of the city, this 18th-century church is the spiritual center of one of Salvador’s most important festivals, the Lavagem do Bonfim. The colorful ribbons (fitas) tied to its gates carry wishes and prayers, bridging Catholic and Afro-Brazilian beliefs. A visit here is an invitation to witness Bahia’s deep spirituality and vibrant devotion.
