Beaches of Bahia

Praia do Forte, Imbassaí, Morro de São Paulo, Boipeba, Trancoso, Corumbau, Itacaré, Marau.

The coast of Bahia is home to some of the most stunning beaches in Brazil, each offering its own piece of paradise. Praia do Forte, with its natural pools and sea turtle sanctuary, is ideal for family getaways. Between August and October, it's the perfect place for whale watching.  The peaceful rivers and beaches of Imbassaí invite relaxation, while Morro de São Paulo and Boipeba promise laid-back island vibes with turquoise waters. Further south, Trancoso and Corumbau mix rustic charm with luxurious beach getaways. For the adventurous, Itacaré and Maraú offer dramatic coastlines with hidden beaches, waterfalls and world-class surfing. Together, these beaches capture the wild beauty and cultural warmth of Bahia.

Praia do Forte

Just an hour north of Salvador, Praia do Forte combines natural beauty with charming coastal sophistication. Once a fishing village, it now hosts boutique pousadas, beachside restaurants, and eco-conscious tourism. Its calm waters and coral reefs are ideal for snorkeling, while the Tamar Project, dedicated to sea turtle conservation, is a must-visit for families and nature lovers. Surrounded by palm trees and protected reserves, Praia do Forte offers laid-back luxury with a strong environmental soul.

Ilha de Boipeba

For those seeking tranquility and authenticity, Boipeba is an untouched island paradise near Morro de São Paulo, but with fewer tourists and more nature. The island is a place to slow down, walk barefoot through sandy trails, and explore natural pools at low tide. The local community lives in harmony with the environment, offering simple pleasures: fresh coconut water, quiet beaches, mangrove canoe rides, and home-style Bahian food.

Trancoso & Caraíva

Trancoso is famous for its colorful Quadrado (historic square with restaurants) overlooking the sea, and blends stylish boutique hotels, design-forward shops, and a serene beach vibe. It’s a favorite of artists, creatives, and celebrities, but remains intimate and welcoming. Caraíva, just a bit further south, is ruled by simplicity - no cars, sandy streets, and a magical encounter between river and ocean. Days end with forró dancing under the stars and sunsets over the river.

Morro de São Paulo

Accessible by boat or small plane from Salvador, Morro de São Paulo is a car-free island escape with barefoot vibes and postcard-worthy beaches. Divided into numbered beaches (Primeira, Segunda, Terceira...), each has its own personality: from lively beach bars to tranquil swimming spots. Days are spent lounging by the sea, zip-lining into the ocean, or walking the sandbank to Gamboa. Nights come alive with music, fresh seafood, and caipirinhas under the stars.

Corumbau

The name means "far from everything" in the Pataxó language - and that’s exactly the appeal. Corumbau is an exclusive, off-the-beaten-path destination where golden sands stretch endlessly and luxury takes the form of silence, space, and privacy. Ideal for couples or travelers seeking total disconnection, the region is also close to indigenous Pataxó communities and marine reserves, adding depth to the pristine beauty.

Itacaré

A favorite among surfers, adventurers, and nature lovers, Itacaré mixes Atlantic Forest trails, waterfall hikes, and a series of hidden beaches accessible by foot or boat. The town itself has a relaxed, surf-town atmosphere with lively bars, capoeira on the beach, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms. It’s one of Bahia’s most diverse coastal destinations, equally suited for action-packed days or hammock-filled afternoons.

Península de Maraú

Where unspoiled nature meets laid-back sophistication, the Maraú Peninsula is a secluded stretch of coastline accessible only by 4x4 or boat. Natural pools at Taipu de Fora are among Brazil’s most stunning, with crystal-clear water and colorful coral reefs. Inland, coconut groves, freshwater lagoons, and dirt-road villages add to the charm. Maraú is perfect for those seeking exclusivity, nature, and authentic Bahian hospitality.
